I’m not sure this short film actually has an important message… It’s just very weird. Still cool though. I like.

Pure CSS animated menu

Thursday, November 22, 2007

I’ve had this idea for a long time, to create a menu that would look animated but still being all CSS. The trick is to use the movement of the mouse over different objects to trigger other elements to change. Thanks to normal child selectors, nested elements and some padding animation is actually possible. The theory behind this is that the 1st element sets the size of the visible menu item, the 2nd changes this to a higher value, and so forth. You can also put in color changes and whatever else CSS you might want!

This is just a proof of concept, and I have no idea if it actually works in all browsers. I’ve developed this little example for Firefox 2. Mouse over the menu slowly and see what happens…

Confusing? I put in some borders in the example below, in an attempt to show off the theory behind it..

Hope you like it :)

Intense Debate Nov 14 Update

Wednesday, November 14, 2007

It’s been two weeks since Intense Debate entered it’s open Beta, and we’ve now pushed a semi-big release. I’ts almost like OSX Leopard. Not very many revolutionizing features, but a nice overall, very much needed update to the general experience. Especially the UI of the comment system itself has been streamlined quite a bit. It has also lost a few unneeded pounds.

You can however expect more updates soon. We have some exciting stuff in the works!

What Me.dium would look like if I designed it

Thursday, November 1, 2007

medium_byisaackeyet.pngI’ve always been kind of confused by the Me.dium (me.dium.com) UI. It is not very intuitional to me, it’s easy to read the text but the lack of anti-aliasing makes it look kind of dull too. It took me almost two weeks of usage to find out that the stuff in the bottom are all tabs, so you can select different ones!

Maybe I’m being overly critical here, Me.dium is an awesome application that will go far. I just hope they can put some more time into making it logical (for first-time users).

I’ve also thought about the simplicity of the medium “world”. The background is genious, but boring, as is the small boxes floating around on it. Again, it’s all needed to be extremely clear just because everything is so small, but cmon. I did a background for the Me.dium sphere to show how it would’ve looked if I designed the thing, it should be to the right of this blog post. Does anyone like it?
